Izabela (Izzy)) Karmach has had over 35 years of professional experience as a Mental Health Specialist. She has extensive experience in planning, management and delivery of Psychiatric Healthcare Services. She has held numerous administrative roles in mental health community such as CEO/Administrator of two free standing Psychiatric hospitals, Chief Operating Officer of a Behavioral Health Hospital, and Director of Operations for the HealthNet Managed Care/ Tricare contract for California and Alaska that serves military dependents.
Currently she is the Administrator of San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital where she directs all hospital activities with a focus on quality healthcare delivery to indigent psychiatric patients. She has been in this position for over 8 years. In her role she works closely with all aspects of client services within BHS, HHSA and Private Sector.
In addition to her administrative accomplishments, Ms. Karmach had maintained a private outpatient practice from 1983 to 2016. This provided a platform for her mental health clinical expertise and creative interests with individuals and families. Her combination of education and licensure as an RN and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist had identified her as a specialized therapist for physically ill patients who suffer psychological distress.
Her clinical experiences stretch beyond just Mental Health and Administration. It includes a spectrum of outpatient services such as providing psychosocial interventions to Pediatric Medical Groups to psychological group counseling for UCSD Pulmonary Rehab Clinic patients, to receiving a volunteer Clinical Instructor appointment for the Department of Psychiatry, UCSD School of Medicine to teach medical students about psychosocial aspects of medical care.
She combines past and current experience into a focus on Whole Person Wellness and Community Mental Health issues for all ages in any setting.
Ms Karmach has a RN diploma from St Mary School of Nursing in Madison, WI; an advanced certificate from the American Nurses Certification Program , Division of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice Kansas City, MO; a Masters Degree in Counseling from National University in San Diego, Ca. She completed her licensure requirements for LMFT in 1982
